Rules for Memorial Cup

  • Game length – 6 innings and time rule if multiple games on same field. Time limit rule is that no inning can start after 1 hours and 45 minutes and no batter can bat after 1 hour and 55 minutes when multiple games are scheduled on the same field. An inning starts the moment the previous inning ends.  There will be games played at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

  • If the time limit is reached, the game, and thus score, revert back to the previous completed inning and the game would be over if there is a winner (not a tie). If when the game reverts back to the previous inning and the game is tied, the teams will resume playing where they left off at a later date, schedule permitting.

Example: Visiting team is trailing after 5 innings. In the top of the 6th inning the visiting teams takes the lead. Time runs out before the 6th inning is able to be completed.  The game, and thus the score revert back to the fifth inning and the home team is declared the winner.  (Explain this to your players and parents so there are no surprises.).

  • Play 3 outfielders for a total of 9  players in the field.
  • Exchange batting orders with opposing team. Give player name and number.

  • 12U – No run limit per inning

  • 10U-11U - Five runs per inning maximum in innings 1-5.  No maximum limit on amount of runs scored in inning 6.  Also, if an umpire declares an inning to be the “last” inning prior to the beginning of play, then there is no maximum limit on amount of runs scored for that inning.

Example: Top of the 5th inning and play has not started for the inning. The umpire tells both coaches/teams that this will be the “last” inning. This inning thus will be treated like the 6th inning in which there is no maximum limit on amount of runs scored.

  • There will be a mercy rule:  If one team is up by 15 or more after 3 innings or 10 or more after 4 innings the game will be called

  • Complete Game – Four complete innings (or 3 1/2 if home team is ahead) constitutes a complete game.

  • Coin toss to see who is home/visitor.

  • In 12U Drop 3rd strike will be in effect.  If a catcher drops the 3rd strike, batter can run to 1st base.  This will not be in effect in the 10U and 11U

  • Little League Rules, except as noted.

  • Continuous batting which allows all players to be in the batting line-up for the entire duration of the game.

  • Each player at every level must play at least 6 defensive outs

While we will follow Little League rules, except as noted, below is a non-exclusive list of less well known rules that may come into play:

  • Base runners cannot lead off.

  • Stealing is allowed after pitch has crossed the plate.

  • A runner may attempt to steal any base (including home); no limitations.

  • A ball is live until the umpire calls time or the pitcher has ball in hand and is on the rubber.

  • A coach must pull the pitcher after he/she goes to the mound two times in the same inning or the third time in a game. You can only go to the mound once the umpire has acknowledged your request for time.

Tie breaker rules for seeding:

  1. Best record in pool

  2. Fewest defensive runs allowed

  3. Most offensive runs scored

  4. Coin toss

Pitch Count Rules

Maximum pitches:

  • 11 and 12 years old - 85 pitches

  • 9 and 10 year olds - 75 pitches

  • 8 and under - 50 pitches

Pitch count and days’ rest required:

  • 1-20 pitches =   0 days rest

  • 21-35 pitches = 1 days rest

  • 36-50 pitches = 2 days rest

  • 51-65 pitches  = 3 days rest

  • 66 or more pitches = 4 days rest

  • A player who plays catcher for 4 or more innings (catching any part of an inning is considered a full inning) in a game cannot pitch in that game. This means if your catcher catches one pitch in the 4th inning he/she cannot pitch in that game.

  • If a pitcher pitches 41 or more pitches he cannot catch in that game.

  • If a pitcher reaches their maximum pitch count 85, 75, or 50 while facing a batter they are allowed to finish pitching to that batter.  After that batter they must be removed immediately.

  • There are no balks or intentional walks.

  • Foul balls and balls hit in play count as a pitch.
